Lady Quake Marines Hit The Servers - Look Out!! :)
After much waiting, they chose their clan name, and clan color, and now the rest will unfold in a few weeks. Our clan tag in our name is QMS> theirs is LQMS> just so you know when you see one. They are pretty lagged, but they all do an amazing job at overcoming the lag they get. Write now, their mailing addresses and web page is in the making as we speak. When it is up. We will put many links to their page. And be nice to these ladies, if you don't you will have to answer to their big brothers. :)
Again, don't even ask for a clan war yet, we are still in the beginning stages. Thank you.
JabbaDaNut Coming Back!?
Yes, I just got word that Jabba is almost 100% positive that he will be coming back to Atlanta in August. I will post more when it becomes a definite thing!
New Design
Yes, I am redoing the whole damn web site again. So, be on the look out for all new everything as soon as I get done with all this. I have some kind of mental imbalance chemically in the left side of my brain that makes me get tired of web pages every month. :)

Quake Marines In Round 2 in the Quake Elite Tournament
Check out the bracket we are fighting in, or
check out all 4 brackets.
Hioctane Is Now A Quake Marine
Last night we decided to bring HIOCTANE into the clan. This only makes us stronger. I just feel sorry for the clans we have to fight in teamplay 1 mode. And soon in teamplay 2. Hopefully I will soon update the members page and have Hi's email and bio-page up.
Quake Marines vs. QuestMasters Scrimmage
We had a very very unofficial scrimmage last night with the QuestMasters. They were all on the LAN, we ended up winning 71 to 44. It was a tough match, and very good practice for us. Check out their web site:

Ignatu And The RA Cheat
I just got finished having a very long conversation with Ignatu about the cheat, and a few other problems with the tournament and mplayer. According to the technicians at Mplayer/RA, the cheat that I stumpled upon is not possible. I assured Ignatu that it was and that he could try it himself if they didn't believe me. Ignatu was very nice and listened to everything I had to say.
He even told me other ways that people have been cheating, and how much people are ragging on the guys of Red Annihilation for all the problems. To be honest, a lot of things are wrong. But, I think that they are breaking new ground here with a tournament of this size, and they are not getting any thanks for their efforts. We can't forget that. All the tournaments after this are going to know and benefit from the problems that these guys had. Everything in life is based on the first of it's kind. And that is what this is. These guys are trying, that is very clear from talking to him. If things can't be fixed now, they will be fixed by the next tournament.
The Quake Marines Sister Clan
The sister clan to the Quake Marines is almost ready to be official. A name and color have yet to be decided. Do not write me and ask about a clan match. They need some time to learn to play as a team, etc., as all clans do. Besides, these ladies are probably to tough for you anyway. :)
New QMS Member
We will be looking at Hioctane tonight as a possible new addition to our clan. I will post to this page if we do bring him in. That happens tonight.

Finally It Looks Like The E3/Red Annihilation Tournament Leaders Care
Ignatu of Clanring is going to call me on the phone tomorrow and get this RA Cheat fixed. I am also talking with another guy that is with id software that will be going in to try to fix this problem. So, the people behind the Red Annihilation Tournament do seem to care. Hopefully, even though this will probably not be fixed before the tournament ends, this gross error in tournament design will not be repeated in the future by anyone that is holding a serious Quake tournament.
Check out some other web pages that posted news about my findings:
http://redwood.stomped.com/
http://www.planetquake.com/
http://news.questgate.net/
I will update the page tomorrow after the conversation I have with Ignatu.

Cheating on E3/Red Annihilation Tournament Continued ... Again ...
After mailing the Red Annihilation Judges/Leaders, John Carmack, and Blue's News none of them have written me back. I'm beginning to wonder about this. If I was running a tournament, and found out there was a way everyone could cheat in it without ever getting caught, I think that I would care. Maybe they are just too busy. Well, regardless, Redwood cares. :) See what he had to say in today's news:
Read May 21st news and lower on this page if you want to know more about this cheating.
Grand Vizier's Tournament
Congratulations to Death! for winning the title of Grand Vizier last night against Stryfe. That was one tough match and there were many people on hand to see it last night. You both played very well, you should be proud. I know all of us are proud of ya. :)

Cheating on E3/Red Annihilation Tournament Continued ...
As of this morning, I have mailed the following in detail about this problem:
Red Annihilation Judges/Leaders
John Carmack
Blue's News
If I get any responses from these people, I will post them, as of yet, I have not.
To answer all the mail I have been getting, Yes, I am very very serious about this loophole. This is not a joke. This loophole allows you to count and not count your games/outings at will. I do consider that cheating. I hated quiting, but .... I see no point in wasting my time playing fair when others do not have to play fair.
Grand Vizier Finals - Tonight!!!
You are invited to watch Death! and Styfe go one-on-one in the tournament tonight, to see who wins the title.
Time: 10:30pm EST

JabbaDaNut Coming Back!?
As
Well, the word is that Jabba might be moving back to Georgia, which would mean that we would have Jabba back on our team! I will post news on this as it comes in.

You Can Cheat In The Red Annihilation Tournament!
Well, due to one of the many bugs in Mplayer, I unfortunately stumbled upon a massive loop-hole in the tournament that lets one cheat whenever they want. This means that I must quit for two very important reasons:
1) By knowing this loophole, I not only run this risk of being tempted to use this, but others will think that I probably cheated, for the simple fact that I know this information. I am not a cheater at Quake. Therefore, I must resign.
2) If I can find this loophole, I know others can easily figure it out as well. And I can promise, that this loophole is undetectable. This means that this tournament no longer has the security factor that the people at ID claimed. I don't want to play in a tournament where myself and others can cheat at will. This is a sad fact that I have come to realize.
Regardless, good luck to everyone that is staying in the tournament. I have mailed the organizers of this tournament about this loophole, although, I will bet that they do absolutely nothing about this or already knew about this problem.

Flaws in the Red Annihilation Tournament: General
I finally have enough experience with this to say that this entire tournament, is pure bullshit. It is geared towards the unfair players, and in its design, hurts the honest/deserving players. By basing this on a ratio system, they automatically hurt people that play fair. Let me explain. Who gets the largest ratio, but not necessarily the most frags in a game? Campers and LPB's.
Flaws in the Red Annihilation Tournament: Campers
Campers - will never win in frags, but always pick many people off before they get killed themselves, because they are not in the crossfire and dangerous areas so much. They are dug in. What does this mean? While a typical camper gets 20 - 40 frags per game he or she will usually only get killed 1 - 5 times. If you think I am bullshitting and just making excuses, just think and observe.
Flaws in the Red Annihilation Tournament: LPB's
LPB's - lag on Mplayer can be pretty bad. This means that all the people with pings 75 or lower have a major advantage. They are allowed a faster reaction time to any and all events happening. Not only that, but since they move so much faster in comparison to us, they are much harder to hit, because our reaction time is restricted. This means, high frags and they don't get killed too much.
Flaws in the Red Annihilation Tournament: Compounded Problem
I have known about these major flaws the whole time. But, I have to say something because it has gotten worse. Now, because of all the LPB's, many HPB's have taken to camping in an effort to counteract the speed of an LPB. So, HPB's are camping LPB's cool ... no big deal right? Wrong. What happens when an honest player logs on?? He is now faced with 1 LPB and 2 HPB campers. Do you kind of see what I am getting at here?
Flaws in the Red Annihilation Tournament: Final Thoughts
Just think about this for one second. In car races, do they put Volkswagen Bugs up against Ferrari F40's? No, they don't. Why? Because no one has the ignorance to have an unfair race like that. This ignorance, is exactly what the tournament was built on. Whether you are my friend or not, if you are an LPB, I do not hide my thoughts on this matter.
People started making tournament games that said, "HPB's only please!!!", "Fuck off and die LPB's" and a myriad of other comments that made it painfully clear that we wanted a fair game for the tournament. But, every one of these games had an LPB in them. In fact, I was in a few, that everyone had a ping 75 or lower except for me on my 28.8. There is nothing we can do, but get raped, and see which LPB, camper, or combination of the two gets that car.

Quake Marines vs. Clan Deimos
Well, Death! and I checked out Deimos' web page, and it seems like they are counting our scrimmage with them, as an official match. This would make our match with Dead 13 as actually our 11th match. I guess we misunderstood. Sorry guys. Check out the Clan Wars page for details.

Quake Marines vs. Dead 13
We are fighting Dead 13 tonight. This will mark our 10th clan war. To find out how we did, check out the Clan Wars page, and click on the Quake Marines vs. Dead 13 link. If you are going to observe the match, please be quiet or use say_team. Please!!! Last time people wouldn't shut up. This is a clan war, please give some respect since you are allowed to watch. Remember to type observer.Quake Marines Do Trivia!!??
Yes, Styfe, Death!, and I all meet at a bar on Mondays to drink and do trivia. Not only do we win at Quake, but .... with the youngest and smallest group, we tied for 1st place. The tie-breaker question was what year was Herbert Hoover born in. Take in mind that 90% of the trivia questions are geared toward baby-boomers and older. We missed his age by about 4 or 5 years, so the other team ended up getting it. We did take first place though, stomping the Choir boys, which are the reigning champs with a group of about 20 people, both young and old. With just 3 people, we stomped their sorry Choir asses. So, if you think all we could do, was to play Quake good ..... :)Kuhas vs. Sniper
After Sniper beat poor Doc. I had to avenge Doc's death. Sniper and I had a good match. I ended up winning 19 to 12.

Quake Marines Lose Two Members
Well, JabbaDaNut and Tonya were released from the clan effective last night. Both due to inactivity. Jabba and I talked for a while last night on ICQ, and he pretty much let me know that it would be impossible for him to be active after leaving his job with the ISP. Letting Jabba go really sucked since he was the first member Doc and I got, and has been with the clan long enough to see it start out with us three, and end up to be one of the biggest Quake Clans on the net. Jabba, we'll miss you buddy. Anytime you can come back, we will take you.Getting New Members
Yes, now we are looking for two new members. I don't like to talk about this so soon, but, we do need two more. If you are easy to get a long with and can play a mean game of Quake, please write me at: Kuhas@QuakeMarines.Com and I will forward it to Death! and Stryfe. There is a good chance that we will have a fragfest and see which two come out on top. We are looking for HPB's, but all offers will be considered. If you want to join a powerful clan, now is your chance.

QuestMasters
I probably haven't mentioned this enough, but the QuestMasters deserve a lot more recognition for the work that they go through everyday for our clan, and for others. Especially Bonz and Sir Rush. If it weren't for these two QM's, They provide everyone that plays at QuestGate with variety, a multitude of fast servers, and an incredible way of dealing with problems. If it were not for Sir Rush especially, we would not be the clan we are today. Because of his generosity with servers and taking the time for us, we have gotten to put many clan wars under our belt. Do not bother him about this though, because he is busy enough. I just want to thank him, without causing more trouble for him. If you ask, the answer will probably be 'no'. Let him have a life! :) Without these guys, and people like Ironbelly and RevetahW we could not have things like the Grand Vizier's Tournament. The Quake Marines just want you guys to know that your efforts are not forgotten.Clan War with the Scourge of GodCheck out Sir Rush's web page!
Check out QuestGate!
Check out the QuestMaster's web site! Thanks again to all QuestMasters for all there work. We just hope that one day we can repay you and Sir Rush. Ummm, how about a few cases of beer for starters? :)
We have a clan war tomorrow night (Saturday the 10th of May) at 10:00pm EST. So far, I only know the status of DrKevorkian, JabbaDaNut, Death!, and myself. If you can, please tell me soon whether you can make it or not. Or tell Death! Thanks

QFL Tournament
We beat the Banzai Clan last night in a pretty close game. This means that we move on to round 2 in the QFL Tournament. This tournament is comprised of 24 clans that were voted amoung the 24 more prestigeous clans in the Clan Ring. I am surprised and flattered that they thought of us. Especially since we are not big into the Clan Ring Mod clan wars aspect of things. See how we did! The War Board is now updated!More about Getting a Ferrari
As of today, I got bumped way down. Out of 901 contestants, I am 84th. :(

Getting a Ferrari
Death! and Kuhas are both in the Red Annihilation tournament. Death! is under the name QMS-Death and I am under Kuhas. I am currently ranked at 47th place out of 728 people at the moment. It looks like getting my Ferrari is going to be harder than I thought. ;) Well, the tournament has more LPB's then you can shake an axe at, but .... if all goes well, Death and I will make it to round two. If you would like to see our progress. Go to the Red Annihilation Rankings PageQFL Tournament and the Banzai Clan
Yes, the Quake Marines have found themselves in a tournament with some of the best clans in the entire Clan Ring, like Clan Havoc, Clan Velocity, Clan Dong, and many others. Tonight we play our first round, and it is with the Bonzai Clan. Wish us luck and check out the results on our world-famous War Board. ;)The Grand Vizier Tournament
Looks like I move on to the 3rd round. I face Avenger next. This should be a damn good match. If Avenger thinks he has it in the bag, I have a few surprises waiting for him. :) Right now, the QMS members still in the tournament are Death!, Stryfe, Avenger, and Kuhas.

Quake Marines vs. Southern Justice
Yes, I finally updated the web page so the link is really there now. Sorry. This match was scheduled for 10:00pm EST last night. Check out the War Board to see who came out on top. The people that played were Stryfe, Avenger, Cat, DrKevorkian, and myself.Upcoming Clan Wars
I want to give everyone more notice about upcoming clan wars, so ... here we go. More details (levels/teamplay mode/etc) will be posted later:

Quake Marines vs. Clan Æriux
Last night we fought Clan Æriux 4 on 4. Check out the War Board to see the scores, details, pictures, and links. And thanks Kevlar for the nice letter after the match. That was cool of you.More New Allies
The Acid Clan based in the UK requested our alliance, so .... I accepted. They are our third allies, and will have their web site up soon. Welcome guys.

New Allies
Looks like we have new allies besides the Swedish Clan Marines. Our new ally is Clan McMental. They are involved in kicking much ass in the UK and Europe. They kind of make me remember that Quake is supposed to be fun too. Even during clan wars. Just check out their web page. Our Clan Situation
I just have to say, that instead of this tearing us apart (like I'm sure a bunch of clans would like to see), this has ended up increasing communication and understanding between us. So now, we are even more tuned in to each other, and probably better friends because of it. Sorry to dissapoint the people that would like QMS disbanned. :)

Re: A Final Word About the Grand Vizier
I just got back into town, and want to say something about all the mail I received from the previous Grand Vizier post. But I will say it quickly, because I've had a very long day.-Kuhas1) I love you guys, and I am not pissed at anyone.
2) No names were mentioned, and enough people in our clan did this so I do not feel that people know that a certain person did it.
3) I am not trying to start trouble, I am just trying to keep things together. If a problem gets ignored, internal problems *will* begin to happen.
4) Yes, cockiness is something I do not hold in high regard. But I do not feel that I am better than anyone, I am just trying to keep us aware of ourselves as a clan and as individuals. I have invested a shitload of time in this clan, and I'm not about to let it break apart . . . I just want us to be together, have fun, and last a very long time.
5) I wrote this, not just because of the Grand Vizier thing, that would have been really lame of me. I had been seeing random acts of serious cockiness by 3 or 4 of our members (I'm not naming names so don't even ask me who they are) for the last month now, and I had to say something. It is not bad, I'm just trying to check things out to make sure they don't get bad.
6) If you think I'm wrong. Awesome. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but if I made at least one of us question his or her level of boasting, then I feel I did my job. The majority of us have been fine in terms of that.
7) Is QMS having internal problems now? Not to my knowledge, like I said, I got back, read about 12 letters about the GV post I made, and haven't read the rest yet. Basically, this can and will happen to most good Quake Clans out there. It's a very easy thing to happen. We are doing very good now, and we should be proud of ourselves as individuals and as a clan.
8) Should I have posted the first letter on the web page? Maybe, maybe not. I have noticed that people usually don't notice, care, think about, act upon what other people say unless it grabs their attention and makes them involved. Instead of me sending out another clan letter to be skimmed and dumped in a folder or deleted, I posted it, and people listened .... and people are thinking about it. So, although I didn't want to do that, I felt I had to. Again, I love our fraternal relationship --- this was just my way of saying I care about you guys and I don't want things to get to be too much of a problem.

Southern Justice
The Southern Justice Clan has challenged us to a Clan War. I hope they don't bring muskets, or they will be in for a real surprise. No, just kidding. These guys are fun to play against, and have gotten better and better everyday, since they formed. This should be a good one. Scheduling and details are now being discussed. I owe them some graphics, so, keep checking back with their page to see what they are up to.Clan Practice
Yes, practice is on for tonight. See the mail I sent you for details. :) Thanks to the Guides and Cruiser for giving us permission to use their server for an hour.Stryfe and the Tournament
Stryfe is doing a great job on this. I just hope he doesn't want to win the tournament in repayment for his efforts. Sorry buddy, but I can think of 31 other people that don't want you to win. :)
Stryfe has the first 16 matches (the tournament consists of 32 players) already paired up on the war board. It is on his page if you would like to see http://www.quakemarines.com/stryfe
All HTML and graphics on the main page was designed by Kuhas except for individual's pages, and the Grand Vizier Tournament Page. If you have any questions or comments, or notice a dead link or typo, please write me and I will change it ASAP. |
